POLOKWANE – THERE are a few things in life worth repeating every day and one of these is the importance of saving money.

According to the South African Saving Institute (SASI), saving money protects us from loss of income and spending shock.

As July is Savings Month in South Africa, CV asked Polokwane residents if they had any money saved.

Brave Mlambo.

Brave Mlambo said he had some money saved so he could secure the future for his two children.

“Yes I save, simply because I have two children and I want to save money for their schooling. If you don’t save, you’ll suffer and your children will not have a good future. You will remain a slave to other people because you will always borrow money,” said Mlambo.

Tefo Maropeng.

Tefo Maropeng said as a young person, he did not save.

“Honestly, I don’t save at all; I mean I’m still a student so it really does not make sense to me to save right now. However, If I had a job, I would save, but right now I don’t see the point.

“I do think saving money is a good idea and I urge anyone to do this because you will never know what might happen in the future,” said Maropeng.

Pontsho Mooi.

Pontsho Mooi said she was unable to save.

“I like spending a lot so it is very difficult to for me to save money. I’m unable to,” said Mooi.

Puleng Seakamela.

Puleng Seakamela said he saved money for the things he might need in the future.

“I save because I know some day I’m going to need money to buy the things I want. And to do that I’m going to need money so I have to use my money carefully,” said Seakamela.

Themba Phukubye said he also saved money because it was the right thing to do.

“I do it in case of emergencies; I want to be able to pull myself out of any situation concerning money. I think as South Africans we are very reckless when it comes to spending. We have to change,” said Phukubye.

Kholofelo Nkwane.

Kholofelo Nkwane said he saved money just to have extra cash in his pocket.

“I do this for rainy days when I will really need money for something important. I think as a young person it is more difficult to save because we always want fancy things. There are too many temptations, such as clothing, expensive cellphones and partying and of course buying your girlfriend something nice,” Nkwane chuckles.
