POLOKWANE – POLOKWANE Municipality Stakeholders Forum donated food parcels and clothes to two less privileged families living on smallholdings just outside of the city for their 67 minutes on Mandela Day.

According to ward 23 councillor, Mobotse Mothiba, Mandela Day is a call to action for the citizens of the country to do their part to fight poverty in South Africa and keeping to Nelson Mandela’s ideals.

She said Mandela was a global icon who would always be remembered for the great work he did for the people of South Africa.

“The municipality really appreciates the great work done by all the contributors. We feel very privileged to have been able to help others when we celebrate Mandela Month. Do not just wait for Mandela Month, try to make a difference to someone every day of your life. Our country now enjoys the freedom and democracy that Mandela fought hard to win for us,” says Mothiba.

Const Paullister Malatji of Polokwane SAPS appreciated the good work done by the Polokwane Municipality Stakeholders Forum.

“It makes me happy to see government employees spending their time with poor families and helping them improve their lives. We thank the stakeholders for their donations, we really appreciate the great work you have done. The campaign will still go on throughout Mandela Month as we still have a series of upcoming events,” said Malatji.

George Botha says the food parcels and the clothes they received meant a lot to her family.

“I can now cook a delicious meal and go to bed with a full stomach. All blessings to the stakeholders forum for their great work and generosity,” said Botha.

The Polokwane Municipality Stakeholders Forum then proceeded to the second family to make their donations.

Seeugnede Bakker said daily life was becoming more and more difficult and this donation was greatly appreciated.

“With the donations from the stakeholders forum we feel very relieved and happy. It really shows that our great icon Mandela has left a good example for our people. With the spirit of Tata Mandela we can live together in peace,” said Bakker.
