The body of Fatima Patel, allegedly killed by her husband, Rameez on 10 April, was exhumed last Wednesday for more forensic investigation.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Ronel Otto said the body was exhumed and buried again on the same day. “The Police needed more forensic evidence and the body was exhumed. I cannot provide more information on what type of evidence the investigating team was looking for,” Otto said.
Rameez recently appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court and is expected in court again on 22 September.
He stands accused of allegedly killing Fatima at their house in Nirvana and was arrested six days after the incident. She had sustained injuries as well as a gunshot wound to the face. Patel spent more than a month behind bars before Magistrate Mohammed Shaik granted him bail of R250 000 on 2 June. During his last appearance his bail conditions were amended to the extent that he will only have to report to Westenburg Police Station once a day instead of three times and may leave the Polokwane jurisdiction with approval of the investigating officer.
