The National Task Team (NTT) of the African National Congress Youth League (Ancyl) reportedly expressed disgust with the manner in which a group of disgruntled members of the Ancyl in the province recently took their structure to court over the outcome of the provincial elective conference.
In a media release issued on Monday, Ancyl Provincial Coordinator Che Selane referred to a Provincial General Council (PGC) of the Ancyl in the province being convened by the NTT of Ancyl on Sunday. The NTT was represented by National Convenor Fikile Mbalula and National Coordinator Nathi Mthethwa, who addressed the court case instituted against the Ancyl in Limpopo and the state of readiness ahead of the Ancyl National Conference.
Out of respect for the rule of law the NTT had redefined the status of the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of Ancyl to that of Provincial Task Team (PTT) with immediate effect, it was stated further. On the pending court matter, Selane said the NTT had expressed utter disgust in the manner in which the so-called complainants took the youth league to court, in the process undermining all organisational processes and guidelines. “The NTT felt extremely undermined by what appeared to be a well calculated agenda to collapse the youth league by the so- called members who took the PEC to court without even affording (the) NTT an opportunity to respond.” The NTT had also expressed concern that despite numerous appeals, the PEC of the ANC failed to decisively intervene in ensuring that the democratic process of the 10th provincial congress were upheld and respected, he stressed.
According to Selane the Ancyl PEC would henceforth operate with full constitutional powers as the PTT, pending the court appeal processes. The entire elected leadership collective would continue to occupy office and lead the structure in the province, only changing title from PEC to PTT out of respect for the court ruling which they abide by, he added.
According to Ancyl Limpopo PTT spokesperson Kgopelo Phasha the PTT was steering the process of Branch General Meetings (BGMs) ahead of the upcoming national conference. He added that an estimated 800 members from the province would attend the national conference scheduled to be held in Johannesburg from 4 to 8 September.
