LIMPOPO – THE municipal manager of the Thohoyandou-based Thulamela Municipality, Adv Makonde Mathivha, who has been on suspension since April following allegations of mismanagement of funds, resigned from his position this week.
Mathivha said he submitted his resignation because going forward, there could not be a good working relationship between him and the management of the municipality.
“Maybe it was my time to quit and I cannot force the situation,” he said.
“The Thulamela Municipality is no longer a good place for me to work at as my relationship with the management is no longer conducive. I have agreed with the municipality to part ways with them with effect from July 31,” Mathivha further said.
Mathivha was appointed as municipal manager in 2006 and his contract would have expired in 2017.
However, in an out court settlement reached between Mathivha and the Thulamela Municipality, he would be paid his full salary for 10 months after the date of his resignation.
Thulamela mayor, Grace Mahosi, declined to comment on the issue and referred media inquires to municipal spokesperson, Nndwamato Tshiila.
However, Tshiila said he could not comment on the issue, as he was not part of the disciplinary committee tasked to investigate the matter of Mathivha’s suspension on the allegations of mismanagement of funds.
Meanwhile, Hlengani Maluleke has been appointed as the acting municipal manager as from April 29 until such time the position is filled.
