The municipality celebrated Mandela Day at various institutions

POLOKWANE – The municipality celebrated Mandela Day at various institutions on Saturday.

Acting mayor, Edgar Maleka kick started the day’s activities by cleaning the Papkuil Primary School yard in partnership with the department of correctional service. The school also received a water tank sponsored by Builders Warehouse Polokwane.

The municipality’s next stop was at Ngwanalaka High School in Ga-Mothiba, and this time they were joined by some of the community, learners, members from Church on the Hill Polokwane, DNM Promotions, Energy FM. The team cleaned the school yard and also replaced and painted the window panes. The window panes, putty, paint and other tools were sponsored by Builders Warehouse Polokwane.

After Maleka’s visit at Ngwanalaka High School he went to Vermaak Farm in Soetdorings, where he was a farm worker for the day. The municipality was joined by officials from different government departments which included: home affairs, correctional services and agriculture. Members from the South African Police Service (SAPS), the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa), and the Polokwane Muslim Trust Welfare Fund and Bariq al Amal was also there. The team picked spinach, which was loaded on a bakkie and donated to Martha Hofmeyer Old Age Home.

The Polokwane Muslim Trust Welfare Fund and Bariq al Amal donated food parcels and blankets to orphans transported by Kabati Transport Services (KTS) from the municipality’s six clusters to a lunch held at Maphirimisa Lodge just outside the city. Home affairs, Sassa and SAPS were also on hand to offer civic services whilst Brand South Africa donated wool blankets they made as part of the cause, 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela,  to Papkuil Primary School and Honey Play School in Ladanna.
