LIMPOPO – THERE is a saying that goes blessed is the hand that gives. This is especially true for a particular community project that is all about giving back.

Aganang Bana Ba Mmaphuti community centre is based in Waschbank under the Aganang Municipality. This centre dates back to 2010 and was started by the Breadsticks Foundation. It has three focus areas: care and support, literacy and economic development.

Class Acts Educational Services and Aganang Bana Ba Mmaphuti Community Centre have received a National Lotteries grant to establish a craft centre at the community centre. This includes the construction of extra space to accommodate the community to practise their craft. This extra space will be adjacent to the existing community centre. It will also involve training and development of residents in various craft skills: leather work, welding, sewing, beading and weaving.

The centre has currently received new equipment and material to facilitate the leather crafts training and according to them, nine participants have been trained and need assistance in selling the finished products.

The centre’s manager, Mapule Molatjane, says they are very passionate about helping the community. “Our aim is to help the community, with our focus being on economic development,” says Molatjane.
