TAXI VIOLENCE: one shot and injured

POLOKWANE -Taxi violence between rival groups of Mankweng and Polokwane on the R81 bypass on Thursday afternoon.

 

Provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto says, “a man was shot and injured”.

Bystanders say that the two taxi associations are unhappy about routes and commuters in this area.

Captain Phala says, members from Flora Park/Seshego and Polokwane/Mankeng taxi associations have been engaged in rivalry since Wednesday (yesterday).

He called on the parties involved to work together and solve the problems in a non-violent way.

According to information the newly elected Mankweng Taxi Association Rank Manager , Ben Nonyana was the man shot in this incident.

The problem has been escalating for a while.

Police and a crime prevention members deployed to the scene.

Situation under control. Traffic in the direction of Mall of the North has been relayed from the Thornhill crossing.

Traffic is still backed up from Veldspaat Street close to the railway crossing.

No arrests yet.
