LOUIS TRICHARDT – In commemoration of Mandela Day, Air Force Base (AFB) Makhado presented Muraga Wilson Mphila of Madombidzha, Sinthumule with a brand new wheelchair on Friday.

Mphila was attested in the South African Air Force (SAAF) in May 1984. His contribution at the base dates back to when he was a cleaner, groundsman and a motor mechanic at both 400 MAU and the service bay, now MT workshop.

He worked for SAAF for 28 years until he retired in 2012 due to ill health.

SAFF senior chief warrant officer, Dan Tshabalala praised the AFB Makhado warrant officers for what he described as genuine support and team spirit which was shown in caring for people living with disabilities.

Tshabalala urged all SAAF warrant officers to find ways to give back to the community.

Mphila thanked the base for the wheelchair.

Mphila’s former colleague and section head, WO Gerald Bloem described Mphila as passionate, committed and an experienced motor mechanic, who taught him more on how to service vehicles.

The base’s regimental sergeant major, master warrant officer, Marius Nortje thanked the warrant officers’ club for their support to make the project a success.
