LIMPOPO – MEMBERS of the Mokopane police station joined hands with the Community Police Forum (CPF), the Victim Empowerment Centre, Youth Against Crime and the Working on Fire team on Saturday for their 67 Minutes for Mandela, where they cleaned the SAPS lapa in Retief Street.
Mandela Day is more than a celebration of Mandela’s life and legacy, it is a global movement to honour his life’s work and act to change the world for the better.
The Mokopane station commannder, Col Siringa Makhubele initiated the clean up at the lapa as part of Mandela Day activities. Makhubele said: “as from July 22, the lapa will be used as an extra location where affidavits can be drafted and certified to speed-up service delivery and to offer the best services to the community as the community services centre is becoming to small. The lapa is the ideal location to help with this situation as it is only a few meters from the police station”.
Operations in the lapa started on July 22 and will continue weekdays from 07:30 to 16:00.
The community will be assisted  at the community services centre after hours and over weekends, said Col Irene Masingi, Mokopane police  spokesperson.
Makhubele thanked Andy Goetsch, chairperson of the CPF for the hard work and dedication from members of the CPF.
Goetsch said: ”it was a very successful day and the CPF and Working on Fire enjoyed working together with the police to make a positive contrition to the community in honour of Mandela Day.”

Working on Fire members roll up their sleeves and help to clean the SAPS lapa in Retief Street.
