POLOKWANE – Westenburg Library is the pit stop where learners can do all their assignments, do research on the internet and also study for the examination.

There is a variety of study materials available at the library to help learners prepare for their examination.

Librarian, Mmabatho Ntjie said there are study materials available for learners from gr. 8 to gr 12 for all subjects.

“We have the X-kit, which has several exercises that learners can work through and at the back of the X-kit there is a memorandum where the learners can check the answers to the exercises.

“We also have the Study Master and prescribed English books for gr 12,” Ntjie said.

She added that the following books are also available at the library for gr. 8 to gr. 12 learners:

• Maths literacy;

• Maths handbook and study guide, with exercises and worked through solutions;

• Accounting;

• Life science;

• Physical science;

• Economics;

• Business studies;

•English and Afrikaans;

• History;

• Geography.

“Most of our study materials come in Afrikaans and English. We urge learners to come to the library where we will help them, they do not have to struggle on their own,” Ntjie said.

Learners can use the studying books at the library and those who have a library card, can take the books home for a week.

There is also an Internet Café at the library where learners can access the internet free of charge to do their assignments and other research for school projects or preparation for examinations.

“A person is allowed to use the internet for an hour, and if it is quiet we allow them to use it longer,” Ntjie said.

Mosa Mothapo, a gr. 12 learner at Westenburg Secondary School said she enjoyed studying at the library, because it is quiet and when she needs any information there are books at the library to help her.

The librarians also help by explaining some of the work she does not understand.

“I also like coming to the library to do my assignments and projects because there are a lot of resources here that I can use to complete my assignments and projects,” Mothapo said.

Lebo Mokgabudi, a second year law student at the University of South Africa (Unisa), said she comes to the library to use the services of the Internet Café.

“It is really resourceful, especially when I have to do my assignments. I can also submit my assignments online at the library. When doing my assignments at the library I can also find more information and ideas from the books available,” Mokgabudi said.

The Westenburg Library is open Monday to Friday from 09:00 until 17:00 and on Saturday from 09:00 until 13:00.
