Two of the five suspects who escaped from the Ritavi cells on Monday have been re-arrested.

LIMPOPO – Two of the five suspects who escaped from the Ritavi cells on Monday have been  re-arrested.

“Stanley Sipho Nkwana and  Rufus Mkhawana were re-arrested late last night (Tuesday) and early this morning (Wednesday) in the the  Nkowankowa area,” says provincial police spokesperson Col Ronel Otto.

The re-arrest of Nkwana and Mkhawana came after Limpopo police followed up on information received, explains Otto.

Nkwana was initially arrested for attempted murder and Mkhawana for rape, robbery and assault.

On Monday the five awaiting trial prisoners Lazarus Moseamedi, Stanley Sipho Nkwana, Kgomotso Mokhabudi, Rufus Mkhawana and Dumisani Nukiwe Khosa escaped from the Ritavi police station holding cells.

According to Otto, the suspects had escaped after cutting through the mesh wires in the excercise room.

Police are still searching for the three remaining escapees namely Lazarus Moseamedi,  Kgomotso Mokhabudi and Dumisani Nukiwe Khosa.
