An Australian surfing champion has fought off a huge shark during a World Surf League (WSL) competition in Jeffreys Bay, South Africa.

NATIONAL – An Australian surfing champion has fought off a huge shark during a World Surf League (WSL) competition in Jeffreys Bay, South Africa.

 

Mick Fanning, 34, was competing in the final heat of a world tour event at Jeffreys Bay in the country’s Eastern Cape province on Sunday when a looming black fin appeared behind him reports Citizen.

The World Surf League (WSL) called the contest off for the day after the attack. The incident was caught on camera during the live streaming of the event.

Fanning miraculously escaped uninjured, but the shark managed to rip off and snap the surfer’s leash.
