Protesters barricade Limpopo road in protest of new municipality

Hundreds of motorists and commuters have been left stranded as Thohoyandou, Vuwani and Malamulele roads are barricaded.

LIMPOPO – Hundreds of motorists and commuters have been left stranded as Thohoyandou, Vuwani and Malamulele roads are barricaded.

Monday morning (today) residents of Vuwani outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo have blockaded the roads with stones and other rubble. They are protesting against the municipal demarcation decision to merge some parts of Vuwani and Malamulele to form a new municipality says SABC News.
Residents say they do not want to fall under a new municipality as announced by the demarcation board earlier this month.

On Sunday in the same area, motorists were advised to use Nzhelele road after angry protestors blockaded the road between Tshakuma and Thohoyandou with buring tyres.

According to Otto, members of the community were protesting after men who had been taken in for questioning after allegedly assaulting and hanging a 23-year-old man, were released from police custody. They could not be linked to the crime explains spokesperson Otto.

“The decomposed body of Dakala Bulannga (23) was found hanging at the Headman Tshikhovhokhovho’ s orchard.”

“It is suspected that members of the community allegedly assaulted the deceased after accusing him of theft and housebreaking.” said Otto.

The angry people from the community were angry after the release and set fire to five houses on Saturday evening.

No one was injured and  a case of public violence was opened.

No one been arrested yet.
