Rotary Anns get new president, Megan Ross

POLOKWANE – The Rotary Anns is not merely the name of the group of wives of Rotary Club members, it is also a charity organisation in its own right and, apart from supporting their husbands’ projects, they help the community as well.

The Pietersburg 100 Rotary Anns is an active group of women, collecting and donating blankets and food to charity organisations that need it.

They do a lot of charity work and give donations to various organisations in and around the city.

Review had the opportunity to meet with and speak to the newly elected president of the Pietersburg 100 Rotary Anns, Megan Ross.

“I suspected that I was a candidate for this role, but it still came as a surprise when it was announced. I’ve been part of the Rotary Anns for more or less 20 years,” she said.

She says she started long ago by supporting her husband, Keith, who was involved with the Rotary. They lived on a farm and every meeting was a social gathering where they discussed who needed help and how they could assist them.

“My role as president is to oversee all the projects we do. I have to make sure people who need food are fed, those that need clothes are clothed and everyone is warm.

“We also assist disabled people and disadvantaged people to get equipment they need, like wheelchairs.”

As with everything in life there are good things and bad, or not so good, things.

Megan says that the best about the Anns is that it brings people together.

They share everything and laugh a lot, but can be serious if needed. It is like a family. The worst part is that they come across sad cases and they cannot always help.

Megan’s daughter is also involved with Rotary Anns, “and we have three grandchildren who are spoiled and loved by their grandparents”.
