POLOKWANE – With people leading busy lives, cooking can be strenuous, so a mother of five in the city has devoted her time to serving residents with healthy, hearty meals at a good price.
Martie Bold cooks fresh and healthy meals and has named her kitchen, Convenient Chef at Home and the meals she prepares are suited to the customer’s comfort, purpose and needs, making it easier for people who lead hectic lives.
Martie worked for a marketing company for 30 years and after she was retrenched, she didn’t sit and mop, but started to prepare meals, which she sold.
“Most career women are busy and don’t have time to prepare a proper meal for their families. I am here to prepare your meal while you are at work,” she explains.
Preparing these meals for them will allow families to have more quality time without stressing about what to eat, she adds.
She says meals are always ready at the customers’ request and at a convenient time, even when there is load shedding.
“I don’t sell leftover food to my customers.
“If there are any leftovers, I drive around the the city and give the food to needy people, it breaks my heart when I see a hungry person. I sometimes serve a cup of soup to the policemen and women who work on the roads at night,” she says.
Martie advises other women who are not employed to find something to do, be it ironing, washing or some sort of a business that can generate an income.
“Where there is a will, there is a way.”
Being a professional cook has always been her dream, she says.
“I would prepare large meals for my family when I had time,” she adds. She also sells frozen meals.
Martie says it’s not all about the money, but about fulfilling people’s needs.
“The business is growing by the minute and I thank God for that and the support I get from residents,” she concludes.
