‘We will miss our teachers’

As the first half of their last year of primary school has passsed, Review asked some gr. 7 learners from Good Hope Primary School what they would miss the most about being in primary school.

POLOKWANE – As the first half of their last year of primary school has passsed, Review asked some gr. 7 learners from Good Hope Primary School what they would miss the most about being in primary school, and they all said they would miss their teachers most.

According to the learners, the teachers at Good Hope always made sure every learner understood the work in class before moving on with other work, and that is what they would miss most in high school.

Review asked the learners if they thought high school would be difficult and whether they looked forward to their gr. 7 farewell ceremony at the end of the year.

Tamnique Adams said there was no doubt in her mind that high school would be difficult.

“The work will be a lot more than what we did in primary school and I think the teachers will also be a lot more strict than the teachers in primary school. I definitely look forward to our farewell ceremony at the end of the year. It is going to be a lot of fun because we will get a chance to say goodbye to our teachers and friends,” Tamnique said.

Morongoa Mokgobu agreed with Tamnique that high school would be difficult.

She said: “we are going to say goodbye to our teachers and have to get to know the new teachers. High school has a lot more work than primary school. I look forward to our gr. 7 farewell ceremony because it is the end of one journey and the start of a new adventure,” Morongoa said.

Her twin brother, Maphuti said high school might be difficult for some learners, but not for him.

“I am a unique learner. I listen attentively in class and when I do not understand the work, I tell the teachers so that they can explain again until I understand. When I am in class, I ignore all distractions and when my friends want to talk to me, I tell them not to talk to me as I am listening to the teacher. My favourite subject is mathematics because it is easy and I understand it well,” Maphuti said.

He added that after finishing his studies, he wanted to become a surgeon.

“I look forward to our gr. 7 farewell ceremony because that is when we get our merit certificates and I know I am going to get a lot because I am a good student,” Maphuti said.

According to Neo Khunou, high school would be challenging at first.

“High school will be difficult at first because I will have to make new friends and get to know my teachers, but once that has been sorted, high school should be easy. The work will be a lot more than primary school, but if I work hard I will be successful. One day I want to be a police man because I want to protect people,” Neo said.

Lethabo Mathatho said schoolwork and making new friends was the most exciting part of high school.

“I am very excited to go to high school next year because I am good with people and I enjoy making new friends. But I am going to miss my teachers at Good Hope Primary School a lot, especially my maths teacher. I also look forward to our gr. 7 farewell ceremony because those who did well during the year will get certificates and I hope to get at least five,” Lethabo said.

Lehlogonolo Hlongwane said high school was not difficult, but the initiation would be a challenge during the first few months of high school.

“Our teachers at Good Hope Primary School prepared us well for high school. We have done the basics and therefore high school shouldn’t be that difficult. The work will be a lot, but if you work real hard, you should be able to do well,” Lehlogonolo said.
