LIMPOPO – Two hijacking suspects were sentenced in the Seshego magistrate’s court on Monday afternoon after they hijacked a vehicle in Moletjie in October 2012.

Paska Maluleke and Collin Mathe were each sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, with Mathe receiving an additional two years for being in the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

“The victim was driving when he was stopped by two suspects pretending to be hitch-hikers. They ordered him out of the vehicle at gunpoint and took the car. The victim alerted a patrolling police vehicle and during a high speed car chase a shoot-out ensued,” explained provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.

In the shoot-out, Maluleke was shot and injured by the police and he spent several weeks in hospital, said Otto.
