POLOKWANE – Four top performers at Pemps say they have worked hard to get where they are today in terms of their school results.

They say one needs to focus on one’s work and ask questions when one does not understand, to excel academically.

Review spoke to these learners to learn more about their studying strategies.

Refiloe Raphasha, a gr. 7 top performer, said her secret to keeping her mind fresh and active was a cup of tea. She added that tea also helped her stay focused. “Learners should befriend their books and make sure that they study as hard as possible to get the best results,” said Refiloe.

Mpho Hamese, a gr. 6 top performer, said she enjoyed munching a packet of jelly tots while studying to keep her mind awake. She added that soft background music also helped. “But sometimes, I prefer to study in a quiet place with no disturbances or jelly tots beside me.”

Reatile Mojapelo, a gr. 5 top performer said she preferred reading a chapter piece by piece so that she could master the information. “I read a small paragraph then recite it time and again to make sure it stays in my little box upstairs,” said Reatile.

Kgaogelo Malebadi, a gr. 4 top performer said she read different books to master the different writing styles that authors used.

She added that this helped her understand her school books as well.

She urged learners to find their own strategies to study without difficulty.
