SPCA welcomes a new face

The SPCA Polokwane recently welcomed a new face to their family.

POLOKWANE – The SPCA Polokwane recently welcomed a new face to their family.

Emma Mahlou is a 26-year-old animal lover, who started her career with the SPCA at the National Council of SPCA (NSPCA) after she completed her degree in Bsc. Agricultural Science (animal production) at the University of Limpopo.

“I was placed at the NSPCA last year and I loved every second of it. I only started working in Polokwane a month ago and I am still getting used to everything,” says Emma.

Although she does not have any pets, she says her favourite animal is man’s best friend, a dog.

Her job mainly includes the prevention of cruelty to animals. “I also do pre-home inspections and prevent cruelty. We take animals to the vet and then we educate the public about the humane treatment of animals,” she says.

She says as an inspector, she is on duty 24/7, but does not mind as she loves her work.

“I love to help people take care of their animals in a good way. So far there was nothing bad that I disliked. I like to meet new people and to learn new things. I do not have much free time, but if I have an hour free, I occupy myself with church activities. I know I’ve only been with the SPCA Polokwane for a month, but the team makes the work easy.

“They are a great team and I love working with them.”
