LIMPOPO – OLD Mutual says it wants to assist funeral parlour owners in the Vhembe region to create sustainable businesses that will positively contribute towards the economy, provide opportunities for employment and eradicate poverty.

“We would also like to grow our customer base by delivering on our promise through our comprehensive custom value proposition,” said Old Mutual inland area manager, Queen Kganyago.

Kganyago addressed some 100 funeral parlour owners in the Vhembe region during a seminar aimed at encouraging them to use technology to improve and grow their businesses. The seminar was held at Khoroni Hotel in Thohoyandou last Tuesday.

Input was also given by the Financial Services Board (FSB) and the department of home affairs regarding regulations and compliance. The seminar unpacked how data management was critical to the success of funeral parlour owners, led to improved premium collections and decreased fraudulent activities where premium payments could not be accounted for.

One of the funeral parlour owners in the Vhembe region, who also attended the seminar, Collen Radali of Murwa Funeral Parlour based in Siloam near Nzhelele, said the seminar came at the right time because the department of home affairs had recently amended the legislation that regulated the registration of births and deaths and the regulation had an impact on how he could improve his business.

Radali said they had an organisation known as Vhembe Funeral Practitioners Association to which funeral parlours belonged. The association was affiliated with Old Mutual, he said.
