LIMPOPO – GOSPEL singer, Edmond Lekgothoane (39) says he hopes to win several gospel awards with his new single, 7 women and 1 man, which was released recently.

Lekgothoane, who is popularly know as Ngola, was born in Makurung village, Ga-Mphahlele. He completed his matric in 1998 and holds a certificate in radio presenting is currently studying towards a national diploma in public relations management.

Ngola is the co-founder of the Lebowakgomo community radio station, Greater Lebowakgomo FM, which went on air in 2000.

“After finishing my matric, my family didn’t have money for me to further my studies, but I never rested and I pursued a career in radio. My friends and I started Greater Lebowakgomo FM, where I became the technical manager and presenter,” says Ngola.

“Those around me motivate me, along with gospel singer, Sfiso Ncwane because he understands the music business.”

Raised in a religious family, his love for music started in church when he became the church choir’s youth leader in 2000 and this is when he was noticed by a gospel music director.

“Growing up in the International Pentecostal Holiness Church youth choir, I was encouraged to pursue a career in music and advised that music should not be ordinary and should accommodate various languages to be more accepted nationally and internationally,” he says

He says when his demo received criticism from gospel singer, Sipho Makhabane live on Thobela FM in 2008, it marked the beginning of his solo career.

“My first solo album, Lerato was released in 2012 despite me having been in the music industry for decades. The album was in Sepedi, IsiZulu, Sotho and English and was mostly inspired by 1 John chapter 4 verse 7. The album indoctrinated South Africans to love one another and the world,” he says

Ngola is currently giving to the community of Limpopo by unearthing new talent in gospel music.

“Through this journey, I intend to form a powerful gospel group that will bring change in the industry. The Limpopo gospel talent search is a powerful initiative and the people of Limpopo love it,” he says.
