LIMPOPO – HIP hop artist, Mathopa “JustCoupe” Mokoditoa (18) says music has always been a part of his life, developing a love for it when he was just 11 years old.
A gr. 12 Hoërskool Merensky learner, he says one of his earliest childhood memories is of him dancing and singing along to Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
“My brothers introduced me to hip hop at a later stage in my life, they used to rap and make beats and I copied them,” says Mokoditoa.
He says his career is currently at an interesting place as he has worked with artists such as Emmy Gee and Anatii and shared the stage with Cassper Nyovest.
“I have a single out titled, Almost Rich, which I produced myself and will soon make its radio debut. I also have a music video out for the song, Treasure, which I directed myself and the song was produced by Fenese, whom I have been making music with since we were 13 years old,” he says.
Mokoditoa says he is currently working on his album, Palm Tree, which will be released next year.
“However, I will drop an Electronics Play (EP), Almost Rich before that, which I’m working on with Fenesse, YourBoySkillz, Sub Zero, Mac Eleven and Lae,” he says.
He says his goal is to influence people to follow their dreams through art, whether it is music or visual art.
“I would be lying if I said I didn’t want to be the biggest artist in the world. I’m very competitive.”
Mokoditoa says it has been a long journey to get to where he is, but he loved it.
“Receiving a lot of positive feedback and random calls and people walking up to me to tell me they love my work is pretty awesome.”
