An African journey awaits Eagle’s Nest learners

The school's outreach team has for the past couple of years journeyed to neighbouring African contries during the school holidays to assist needy communities.

POLOKWANE – It is not everyday that one hears about a school that has embarked on a charity mission to help communities in Africa, but for Eagle’s Nest Christian School learners and personnel, this is no strange encounter.

The school’s outreach team has for the past couple of years journeyed to neighbouring African countries during the school holidays to assist needy communities.

This year, the team will travel to Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe from June 29 to July 11, where they will help with restoration work at numerous schools and mission stations, as well as teaching farming skills, which is an integral part of the team’s tasks.

The Eagle’s Nest team will be joined by a team from the Doxa Deo School in Hartbeespoort. According to the principal, Mac van den Berg, the team combined includes about 50 people, who will take on this mission to help uplift these organisations, which are usually situated in poverty stricken areas.

One of the teachers who will form the team, Phillip Buys, says it is wonderful to be able to help these communities.

He says it was amazing to see the wonderful landscapes other African countries have to offer.
