DA: Officials should be held accountable for failed R1.5m water project

The DA will launch a petition campaign demanding that the Mogalakwena Municipality mayor launches an investigation into the failed water project.

LIMPOPO – The DA will launch a petition campaign demanding that the Mogalakwena Municipality mayor launches an investigation into the failed water project.

According to a DA press release, the petition will be signed by all the affected residents and be submitted to Mogalakwena Municipality’s new mayor, Parks Sebatjane.

“We seek his urgent intervention regarding the municipality’s failed R1.5 million water project”

“The DA has written to Mayor Sebatjane, to urgently probe this abandoned project. It was finished two years ago, but still provides no water for residents,” says Charlotte Senosha, DA councillor at Mogalakwena Municipality.

“The municipality previously allocated the money to install water pipes and taps for the residents of Matsogelle in ward 11, but project was never completed by the contractor.”

“Due to the municipality’s failure to monitor the project, the residents are after many years still facing a water crisis and are now forced to buy water.”

“More than 500 households are forced to share three drums of water that is supplied by the municipality once a week,” says Senosha.

Senosha says that the incompletion of the water project, is a clear indication that the ANC  is not serious about providing service delivery to the people.

“Spending R1.5 million on a project without monitoring measures in place, is a clear waste of tax payers’ money and an abuse of power that must be investigated,” says Senosha.

According to the press release the DA urges the Mayor to launch an investigation into the failed water project and hold implicated officials accountable.
