POLOKWANE – All the sleepless nights, mood swings and cravings were worth it. Lethlogonolo Mathabatha (27) says her bouncing baby girl is the apple of her eye.
After becoming a mother, your focus shifts from your own life to that of your children. Her child’s name is Didintle meaning ‘it’s beautiful’, and she says her baby girl is exactly that.
Mathabatha says she gave birth at 36 weeks with a Cesarean section. She mentioned that she had some of the strangest cravings, she would eat chocolates three times a day without eating a proper meal.
“I would wake up at 01:00 to eat some chocolate and during my second trimester I ate lots of vetkoek,” Mathabatha says. Her friends and family organised her baby shower and she bought most of her baby’s basic essential such as nappies, clothes, medicines, blankets and cosmetics beforehand.
She explains that her mother was her number one supporter, she was there throughout her pregnancy and she is still part of her child’s upbringing. She had a terrible shock when she fell at work during her pregnancy, and she thought it was the end, that she would never even see her baby. “I thought I lost my precious gift, I thank God that I didn’t. I also had three threatening miscarriages during my pregnancy,” she says.
She says Didintle completes her world, everyday with her is a blessing. The things she wont miss about her pregnancy are the sleepless nights and midnight snacks. Being a mom changed her perspective and made her more considerate of other people’s feelings, it also made her realise that she should not only live for herself but for other people as well. Didintle’s chubby cheeks, downy hair and cutest smile, all these adorable features make her appreciate life more.
