LIMPOPO – YOUNG PEOPLE in Ga-Mashashane came together at Mohlonong Stadium last Tuesday to celebrate Youth Day.

The event was sponsored by loveLife, Mashashane Community Outreach Programme and the Mashashane police station.

According to the Mashashane Community Outreach Programme founder, Khomotso Ledwaba, the event was not only to commemorate Youth Day, but to showcase young people’s talents and to encourage those who dropped out of school to return.

“Youth Day serves as a reminder of those who fought for our educational rights. This is one way of hosting discussions and dialogues as young people to see how we can use our freedom to improve our lives and create better education for all of us,” said Ledwaba.

Obed Malesela (57), said he was there during the Soweto uprising.

“That was the biggest protest I had ever seen in my life. Today, every door to education is opened for our children and they should use this great opportunity well and go to school to better their lives,” said Malesela.

Mpho Mahlong (18), said: “this is indeed a great day for young people, who should come together to keep the spirits of the 1976 heroes alive”.
