POLOKWANE – Burglaries and robberies at homes are occurring more regularly during the daytime.
Polokwane police spokesperson, WO Lesiba Ramoshaba, confirmed that there had been some house robberies that had recently occurred during the day, usually shortly after the residents had left for work and school.
He said in some cases, it was found that robbers were given inside information on the houses they targeted, and added that the police had intensified their patrols in the areas affected.
Ramoshaba urged residents to get involved in their local community policing forums and to call the police station and report any suspicious people and activities.
Speaking on behalf of Northern Upper Town (NUT), also known as the sector 5 community policing forum (CPF), Karen Botha who is also Savannah Mall’s marketing manager, listed some warning signs and preventative measures residents could apply to safeguard their homes.

Be safer like this:
• Do a thorough reference check when considering the appointment of anyone to work on your premises and ensure you have a copy of their ID.
• Keep all doors and security doors locked during the day.
• Make sure anyone left at home during the day knows not to let any person into the house for any reason unless it has been cleared by you.
• Also make sure anyone due to come to your home when you are away has clear identification.
• Be alert when there is a lot of barking by dogs in the neighbourhood or even when they are too quiet.
• Have your CPF emergency numbers close at hand.
• Have your own emergency number close at hand if needed by an employee or anyone in your home when you are away.
