No bail for murder suspects

THE appeal by the three suspects in the Charles Mgidi murder case against the decision not to grant them bail was denied last Friday in the Polokwane High court.

MOKOPANE – THE appeal by the three suspects in the Charles Mgidi murder case against the decision not to grant them bail was denied last Friday in the Polokwane High court.

“The suspects failed to contest their position in opposing the decision by magistrate Annelies Swanepoel, of the Mokopane magistrate court on April 17, to not grant them bail and as a result their appeal for bail in the Polokwane High court was also denied,” read chairperson of the Mogalakwena Residents’ Association, Percy Nketse’s status on Facebook on Friday afternoon.

Patrick Sekhu, Desmond Machaba and Samuel Matjila, all well-known taxi owners and the suspects in the Charles Mgidi murder case arranged with their legal representative to appeal against magistrate Swanepoel’s decision to deny them bail.

Charles Mgidi, a member of the MRA was shot and killed on April 4 in front of the Caltex garage in Nelson Mandela Drive by the three suspects. The suspects remain in custody until they are set to appear for their trial on June 30.
