Lim police: Three of the four remaining escaped suspects arrested

Four of the five suspects are back in custody after five prisoners awaiting trial escaped on Tuesday while being escorted from the Malalmulele court to a waiting police vehicle.

LIMPOPO – Four of the five suspects are back in custody after five prisoners awaiting trial escaped on Tuesday while being escorted from the Malalmulele court to a waiting police vehicle.

Members of the provincial tracking unit were following up on information received which led to the arrest of three of the remaining four escaped prisoners.

The three suspects,  Cliff Sithole, Lucas Siweya, Emmanuel Simango who are facing charges ranging from murder, theft and assault, were arrested in Letsitele  late on Thursday afternoon, says provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.

The fourth suspect, David Madala Mhlongo is still being tracked by the unit.

According to previous information, the suspects escaped custody when an inmate overpowered a police officer while being escorted from the court and stole an awaiting state vehicle.

A sixth prisoner who attempted to escape was arrested immediately and taken into back to the holding cells, said Otto.

The stolen vehicle was later found abandoned 25km from the scene at Tovhohane village, west of Malamulele.

Bernard Ndove one of five suspects who escaped from custody handed himself over at the Malamulele police station on Tuesday evening.

Ndove is currently facing a charge of murder in Malamulele.

The three suspects will appear in court the Malamulele court on Monday on charges of escaping lawful custody.
