Sebatjane reaches out

MOKOPANE – DESPAIR turned into tears of joy when the newly elected Mogalakwena mayor, Parks Sebatjane provided temporary shelter to the Chueu family of Nylpark, whose house was guttered by fire last Thursday.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and investigations are underway.

The family of six lost everything in the fire, and Sebatjane provided them with temporary shelter on Saturday. The children were also provided with school uniforms.

The homeowner, Samuel Chueu and his wife work in Marble Hall and were shocked when they received a phone call from their children that the house was on fire.

“Although the municipality firefighters didn’t take long to arrive, the house was already engulfed by the blaze. A neighbor played a very big role and removed my car from the garage,” he said. “We would like to thank all our neighbours and the municipality for the help they provided. Our concern is the children who have been through a very bad experience. One of them was sleeping and the others were studying, but thanks to God they all managed to escape,” Chueu said.

Sebatjane said: “preliminary investigations suggest that an electricity fault could have been the cause of the fire, but that cannot be confirmed as investigations are still underway. We have provided temporary shelter and food parcels to the family while they seek long time solutions. Our people should understand that our intervention is only temporary and will not replace their normal housing conditions”.

“Despite the family having lost all their belongings, we are grateful that none of the family members were harmed during the fire, and we have arranged for a psychologist to meet them and assist with counselling. My office is committed to assist the family further, should such a need arise,” Sebatjane added.

He urged anyone who could assist with any form of donation, especially clothing, blankets, food and other sets of school uniform to contact the municipal communications head at (015) 491 9760 or 083 359 6971.
