Villagers stone man to death

A WOULD-be thug was stoned to death by the community of Kurhuleni-Mission near Elim after he attempted to rob an Ethiopian businessman last Wednesday.

LIMPOPO – A WOULD-be thug was stoned to death by the community of Kurhuleni-Mission near Elim after he attempted to rob an Ethiopian businessman last Wednesday.

Two other robbers managed to flee, but Nowa Gonai, a well-known pot maker in the area, was captured and stoned to death.

This is not the first incident where a community took the law into their own hands.

Last week, a resident of Tiyani Ha-Magoro was killed by the community as they thought he was responsible for the robberies in the area.

Levubu SAPS spokesperson, WO Solly Mukhola, confirmed the incident and said this was the third time a business ran by a Ethiopian national was terrorised. He condemned the residents for taking the law into their own hands.

“We have opened a case of murder and the perpetrators will be arrested.

“We appeal to the community to refrain from taking the law into their hands,” said Mukhola.

The village’s traditional leader, chief Nndwakhulu Kharidzha, condemned the brutal killing of Gonai.

Gonai’s wife, Mavis Rikhotso, expressed her sadness and described her husband as a hard working man who loved all people.

“His death has saddened us and robbed us of a hard worker who didn’t deserve to die such a brutal death.” said Rikhotso.

Gonai is survived by his wife and two children.

Nowa Gonai’s widow, Mavis Rikhotso says she can’t believe her husband is dead.
