POLOKWANE – Following a recent incident, the community policing forum (CPF) sector 5 also known as Northern Upper Town (NUT) CPF, would like to warn residents of the dangers of driving alone in the evenings.
Over a week ago a young woman who did not wish to be identified was the victim of an attempted hijacking on the corner of Dorp and Rissik Street at around 22:00. While driving with her window open she was attacked by a man who tried to hijack her. She resisted and was stabbed in the arm. She received medical attention and is currently recovering from the ordeal.
NUT would like to create awareness of the incident and supplied the following safety tips:
• Never drive alone between sunset and sunrise.
• Always keep your doors locked.
• Always keep your windows shut.
• It is to your benefit to install smash and grab to your vehicle windows.
• Never leave valuables (which include handbags) in your vehicle but stow them safely away in your boot.
• Drive slowly when nearing a red traffic light to prevent a dead stop which makes you more vulnerable at night.
• Be vigilant during the day and night when driving.
NUT wants to invite the public to join their local CPF’s in the different sectors for a safe family environment.
