POLOKWANE – Four Capricorn High School learners made it to the final round of the South African Reserve Bank Monetary Policy Challenge, which will be held in Pretoria on July 30.

Various high schools from Limpopo, Gauteng and the Free State participated in the competition hosted by the South African Reserve Bank (SARB).

The learners had to write an essay in which they recommended whether the official cash rate should go up, down or stay the same.

Capricorn learners came in fourth place with their essay, which qualified them for the final round, where they will do a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation on their essay. Each group must select a governor, who will give the presentation.

The presentation may not be longer than 10 minutes. There will also be a cocktail dinner for the participants on July 29.

The winners of the competition will each receive a bursary from SARB and will be appointed by SARB on completion of their studies.

The winners will also receive a cash prize. The school of the winning team will also receive a cash prize and the teacher who helped the learners will win an Ipad.
