POLOKWANE – Even before they receive the posters from the South African National Blood Services (SANBS), Dorah Manyama, branch manager at MBD Credit Solutions starts planning for donation day.

“When we receive the posters, we post them everywhere and we have a meeting to encourage everyone to donate blood. Because we work in shifts, we request those that work in the afternoon to come in earlier to donate,” she says.

They started donating blood in 2013 and had less than eight donors. At their most recent donation in April, they had 17 donors.

“There are more that come to donate but are shown away due to medical reasons. I think the biggest reason why they do not donate is because they don’t know what is required and also the fears associated with donating blood. I will get Sello Makhura, SANBS donor recruiter to come and educate everyone on a regular basis,” Dorah said.
