LIMPOPO – TOP five gr. 10 learners from Matlhabela Secondary School in Ga-Rammetlhwana in Moletjie won the Capricorn District Municipality school entrepreneurship competition, which was held in Polokwane recently.

The department of education and Limpopo Economic Development Agency (Leda) partnered to implement the entrepreneurship competition.

According to Morris Matabola, the learners’ mentor, the competition’s approach was to instil the principles of business entrepreneurship among school children.

“The project compromises a school entrepreneurship coaching phase, where learners are advised on the fundamentals of business planning.

“This will lay a theoretical foundation for learners to develop their business plans and present them in the Capricorn district school entrepreneurship competition,” said Matabola.

He said the development of an entrepreneurial spirit among young people was vital to pushing back the frontiers of poverty and generating employment opportunities, as well as to address problems of delinquency and crime arising from joblessness.

One of the learners, Patricia Chochi said she felt happy when she was announced as a top learner in this competition, and she looked forward to work even harder.

“It was a tough competition, but we did not give up. We worked hard throughout the competition, knowing that if we did, we would walk away with something from the competition,” said Chochi.

The principal, Simon Dibete, said the learners did a good job and he wished them all the best.

He added that they should continue to work hard throughout high school and should continue with that spirit when they get to university.

“We are glad that our school managed to win the Capricorn District Municipality school entrepreneurship competition. As a school, we look forward to future competitions,” Dibete said.

The learners were each awarded certificates, computer tablets, medals and R10 000 vouchers, while the school received 10 dictionaries.
