LIMPOPO – THE futures of the three men who are facing murder charges in the recent violent taxi killings in Mokopane look bleak after their bid for bail drew a blank.

The bail hearing of Desmond Machaba (48), Samuel Matjila (55) and Patrick Sekhu (55), who have been behind bars since their arrests at the beginning of April, was postponed to Monday for further investigations.

The trio appeared before the Mokopane magistrate’s court last Thursday in connection with the death of Mogalakwena Residents’ Association (MRA) member, Charlie Ngidi and taxi owner, Gideon Fatane.

At the time of their arrest, Mokopane police spokesperson, Const Mmadikgale Masingi, said the police had also confiscated four firearms.

Since the shootings, Mahwelereng and Mokopane have experienced shutdowns of businesses and schools, with residents who depended on public transport frequently being left stranded.

MRA spokesperson, Thintha Mokhonoana, said: “we are convinced that the suspects are linked to the recent killings that took place in this town, including that of our founding chairperson, Piet Pale. We will not rest until they are dealt with by law. We want to see justice being done, and by justice we mean they must rot in jail”.
