Opportunities for women in mining

BUSINESSWOMEN were inspired and empowered during an event hosted by the Businesswomen's Association of South Africa (BWASA) Limpopo branch in partnership with Anglo American at the Thaba Moshate Casino and Convention Centre in Burgersfort.

LIMPOPO – BUSINESSWOMEN were inspired and empowered during an event hosted by the Businesswomen’s Association of South Africa (BWASA) Limpopo branch in partnership with Anglo American at the Thaba Moshate Casino and Convention Centre in Burgersfort on Wednesday, May 27.

Phillip Zandiwe from Anglo American’s Twickenham mine told the women more about the opportunities available for them at the mine. He also mentioned that Twickenham mine was privileged to be a part of the event and to witness women taking the lead in business.

He further said their doors would always be open to assist women to make a difference in the province. He also committed the company to being continuously involved with BWASA Limpopo, especially in the impoverished Sekhukhune area.

“Heat up an idea, take action, mix it up with passion and belief then add a dash of persistence,” was his advice to those present.

BWASA Limpopo chairperson, princess Tsakani Nkambule, gave a presentation on BWASA, mentioning its mission, vision and the programmes that it was involved in. The topic of her presentation was strategies for a successful entrepreneur. She said every woman should develop an effective support system, improve her network, participate in dialogue about women in business and take responsibility for her own development.

She spoke briefly about these strategies and underlined their importance to any woman who wanted to thrive in the business world.

The event also marked the launch of the BWASA Sekhukhune branch, where 109 women from all over the Sekhukhune district availed themselves for the day. The Sekhukhune women welcomed their new branch with excitement, and said they looked forward to voicing themselves in business and participating in socio-economic activities.

The BWASA Sekhukhune coordinator will be Frida Maphalla, who is one of the executive committee members of BWASA Limpopo.

An invitation was extended to all businesswomen in Limpopo to become members of BWASA Limpopo, which serves as a platform for the inspiration and empowerment of women. For more information contact Elizabeth Modiba at (015) 298 8391 or send an e-mail to limpopo@bwasa.co.za
