Community demands building of high school

Kgabo Park residents, including learners in Moletjie marched to the Moletjie circuit offices to hand over a memorandum that demands the urgent construction of a new secondary school.

LIMPOPO – MORE than a thousand Kgabo Park residents, including learners in Moletjie held a successful march to the Moletjie circuit offices to hand over a memorandum on Thursday.

According to the community convener, William Mathekga, the memorandum demands the urgent construction of a new secondary school, named Kgabo III Secondary School, of which the establishment and registration was approved by the education head of department in June 2011.

According to Mathekga, learners currently travel long distances to reach schools, and this is particularly problematic in winter.

“For our children who do not have access to a secondary school in their community, the cost, risk and effort of getting to school influence decisions about regular attendance as well as participation in extramural activities and after school events.

He mentioned that there were safety issues at play as well, with children’s safety being compromised as they have to travel through bushes and overgrown areas. Dan Modiba, manager in the district senior manager’s office welcomed the memorandum.

“The memorandum is signed accordingly and is welcomed. It will be submitted to the provincial head office and a response will be given to the Kgabo Park community shortly,” he said.
