Delegates from African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) branches across the province pronounced with somewhat of a margin their preference to see Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini taking over as President of the structure at the next national elective conference when they recently gathered for a Provincial General Council (PGC) in Polokwane.
The national elective conference is expected to be held before the end of June, it was learnt.
According to ANCWL Provincial Secretary Maleke Mokganyetji delegates from branches across Limpopo voted for their favourites during last weekend’s PGC, ending in Dlamini getting a margin of 30 branches more than current ANCWL President, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga at 161. Sisi Ntombela was unopposed as preference for Deputy President of the league, she said. One of Limpopo’s own, International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane emerged the preference for future Treasurer-General of the ANCWL nationally with 198 votes, as opposed to the 157 votes in favour of Water and Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa.
Before the start of the PGC, ANCWL Provincial Chair Maite Marutha said the structure in the province would first go to the national elective conference before it would host a provincial elective conference.
The following day the ANC Youth League (Ancyl) also gathered for a PGC to conclude the business of the recent 10th provincial elective conference that resulted in a new leadership voted in.
Before the event started Ancyl Limpopo spokesperson Kgopelo Phasha said they met to continue with commissions and taking of resolutions as they couldn’t manage to conclude with their programme during the elective conference two weekends prior.
The national elective conference of the Ancyl is scheduled for 24 to 28 June in Johannesburg, it was learnt.
