LIMPOPO – A 19-year old has been left dead and 53 others injured following a bus accident on the R555 this morning.
It’s understood a school bus collided into the back of a stationary bus on the road between Ohrigstad and Burgersfort.
According to police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto, the bus was parked on the side of the road due to mechanical faults when the school bus rear ended it.
“Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found the roadway obstructed with accident debris and the twisted frames of the vehicles, the wreckage of the front bus was pushed into the veld,” said Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha.
One was confirmed dead, one seriously injured and the rest treated for minor to serious injuries. The injured were taken to the Dilokong Hospital.
The school children are from the Maepa area.
The exact cause of the accident will form part of police investigation.
