Polokwane businessman, Rameez Patel bail’s application has been postponed to Tuesday 2 June.

POLOKWANE -Polokwane businessman, Rameez Patel bail’s application has been postponed to Tuesday 2 June when Magistrate Mohammed Shaik will deliver his judgement.

This morning the bail application continued in the Polokwane magistrates court with  prosector Tumi Mokwena, the defence continuing his closing argument.

He said that the accused had the right to a speedy bail application  – Rameez Patel has been in custody for over a month.

He further said that there was no evidence of Patel’s interference with any state witnesses and that the state had a weak case.

State prosecutor Mark Van Drunik told the court that he had been threatened, but Mokwena objected and said it had nothing to do with his client as he was in custody.

Van Drunik said that if Patel was released, public confidence in the judicial system will be undermined and the community will take matters into their own hands.

Van Drunik further said that Patel had not given any evidence of exceptional circumstances in order to be released.
