From Cape to Cairo in an effort of learning

POLOKWANE – Two officials from the Republic of Angola paid a visit to social development MEC, Joyce Mashamba, on Thursday to learn more about some of the projects the department is involved in.

Manuel Alexandre, international exchange office director and Andre Ginga Kula, directorate of social action will visit four projects in the Capricorn district and two in the Sekhukhune district, accompanied by Mashamba.

On Thursday, the delegation visited the Polokwane Welfare Complex, Polokwane Centenary House, Phuthanang Bakone Bakery Projects and Tshwarisanang ECD centre in the Capricorn district.

On Friday, they proceeded to Lethalaba protective workshop at River Cross and Mohube Agricultural Primary Cooperative at Moretsele village. Mashamba said Limpopo was a vast and rural province which geographically contained the former homelands of South Africa within its borders.

“The result is that the ANC-led government has had to toil hard to correct the imbalances of the past during our 21 years of democracy and freedom,” she said.

Mashamba added that they trusted that the two officials would learn a lot from their stay and travels in Limpopo, and invited them to give their input wherever they saw fit.

“Angola and South Africa have a rich and noble history of working together long before the birth of our democracy. We wish to continue this working relationship in the spirit of Pan-Africanism.

“It is so much more significant that we welcome our friends from Angola on the eve of Africa Day celebrations. In this, our actions will be true to the theme of this year’s celebrations, namely ‘We are Africa, opening the doors of learning from Cape to Cairo’.”

She also emphasised that when president Jacob Zuma became president, the first country he officially visited was Angola.
