No learning or teaching without proper toilets

For this reason, Lepelle Northern Water, came to the rescue of the learners of Khogonyane Primary School in Ha-Kutama village outside Makhado when they donated 10 modern toilet facilities to the school.

LIMPOPO – LEARNING and teaching cannot happen properly without proper infrastructure and a conducive environment.

For this reason, Lepelle Northern Water, which was established in 1997 with the aim of providing a bulk water supply to the Water Services Authorities, came to the rescue of the learners of Khogonyane Primary School in Ha-Kutama village outside Makhado when they donated 10 modern toilet facilities to the school last Friday.

“We understand that learners used to have to relieve themselves in the bushes because the toilets they had were a health hazard, and were old and dilapidated. We were approached by the Vhembe District Municipality after they conducted an imbizo last November,” Lepelle Northern Water acting CEO, Phineas Legodi explained.

Legodi said they teamed up with the municipality as they felt that because education was so important, they could not stand on the sidelines when water and sanitation was needed by learners. Legodi urged the learners to take their education seriously, as education was the only weapon with which they could defeat poverty.

Acting municipal mayor, Lucy Mulaudzi, said the handing over of the sanitation facilities to Khogonyane Primary School was part of restoring learners’ dignity.

“We call on learners, educators and the community of Tshikwarani village in Ha-Kutama to look after these modern facilities properly. We must protect these facilities against vandalism and report any vandals to the police,” Mulaudzi said. Acting principal, Elsa Phadziri, was ecstatic over the new facilities.
