POLOKWANE – To raise money for their school’s renovation project, Good Hope Primary School held a raffle, and the winners were announced during the school assembly last Monday.
Learners paid R2 for the raffle tickets. There were two winners, one from the junior classes and another from the senior group.
The winners, Mamafa Modiba and Ethan Howard, each won a cake and six 1.25l cold drinks.
Last year, some of the teachers, the school management and the school governing body decided that the school needed a facelift. A beautification committee was formed under the leadership of Joe Adams, a teacher at the school.
The committee is in charge of making sure the administration block is renovated where needed, along with the classrooms.
The committee did all their planning last year and will implement this planning this year.
The principal, Cindy Buys, said the project was funded through fund raisers organised by the beautification committee.
“The raffle is the second fundraising event for this initiative, and with the raffle, the committee raised more than R5 000. They also had a market day earlier this year, where the children watched a movie. The children paid R2 for the movie and there was a tuck shop where they could buy snacks. To date, the committee has raised R15 000 all together,” Buys said.
Buys thanked the parents for their support in the school’s fund raising projects.
“The parents have adopted the culture of fundraising and giving to the school. We are blessed with very supportive parents and I would like to thank each and everyone of them. We are a no fees school, but we are never without funds because of the parents’ dedication and support,” she said.
