Hawkers to wait longer

THE hawkers' stalls being built in Burgersfort and Praktiseer are taking shape fast.

BURGERSFORT – THE hawkers’ stalls being built in Burgersfort and Praktiseer are taking shape fast.

When CV visited recently, the final touches were being made on the long-awaited street vendors’ markets.

Residents stressed that it would still take some time before the stalls officially started operating. “More than 20 people were left without an income and only a few people remain working there. It’s still going to take time to see every street vendor benefiting and selling without hassles. What you see is just the outside part,” a local resident said.

In June last year, the Greater Tubatse Municipality broke down all illegal vending stalls in an effort to force vendors to abide by the law. This followed after several meetings with the Tubatse Hawkers Association, after which a court order was granted the municipality to allow the hawker stalls to be removed.

Municipal spokesperson, Thabiso Mokoena, promised to send an update to CV about the stalls. At the time of going to print, no update had been received.
