Marula fruit is Lillian’s labour of love

LILLIAN Sebola from Kgapane township in Modjadjiskloof has found a way to make a living from the marula fruit.

LIMPOPO – LILLIAN Sebola from Kgapane township in Modjadjiskloof has found a way to make a living from the marula fruit.

The director of Mohlao Textile Manufacturing and Decoration produces atchaar from the marula fruit, creating job opportunities for local people.

Sebola says she does not only produce atchaar, but products such as marula jam, lemon syrup and Sepedi traditional clothing and necklaces.

Her business operates from home, where she has employed three people to assist her.

“My business has a big market, which makes it complex to determine where my clients are located geographically. The business mostly makes sales from exhibitions and events locally, nationally and throughout SADC countries,” says Sebola.

She also sells her products at schools.

“I recently clinched a deal with Shoprite, which wants me to supply them with marula products,” she says.

In 2012, she joined the department of trade and industry in Angola, where she exhibited her products.

Her company was also awarded a contract to supply 100 decorated and branded umbrellas to Thobela FM.

Sebola says a company recently bought her a site in Ga-Kgapane, where she will build a factory to expand her business. She says the expansion of her business will see her employ more people in the area to assist with the eradication of poverty.
