A book with possible answers

LIMPOPO – FORMER minister of science and technology, political activist and long time member of the black consciousness movement, Dr Mosibudi Mangena, launched his latest book titled Triumphs and heartaches at the Polokwane library recently.

Mangena said the book was dedicated to all Africans and it gave possible answers to the economic state of the country.

He said people could not ignore the fact that the country had problems and effective solutions had to be found.

“The nation has come a long way but with the level of inequality and corruption such things should not be in the South Africa we live in today.”

He said young people should be given an education which would allow them to find radical ways of developing the country.

“The government should improve the education system so that we can produce effective leaders. I am doubtful of the current state of our children’s education. We need to introduce the use of technologies so that they can be skilled enough to govern.”

Mangena said the country needed technological development to modernise the economy, and to achieve this, government should invest in education.

“My parents worked on a farm, we didn’t have much but I was given an opportunity to go school. I managed to overcome the harsh upbringing of my childhood and want others to have the same.”

Mangena advised the youth to stay in school and work hard to liberate themselves. He said his book was versatile and looked into political, social and economic issues, which people could relate to. He believed there was a lot one could learn from the book, he added.

Also at the launch was Thomas Masingi, a local poet and aspirant writer.

Masingi said he related to the book because he was about the black consciousness movement and liberating his people. “I also appreciate the sections that tough on education, capitalism and xenophobic attacks. Such books educate us about such issues so that we can bring change and progression into the world,” he said.
