MOKOPANE – TWO brothers from the Mokopane English Combined School, (MECS), participated in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, last weekend in the Kasparov Chess Foundation 2015 Orion Group Open.

The tournament was organised by Chess Excellence in conjunction with Hyenas chess club in Braamfontein.

The 18-year-old Charles, headboy at MECS, and his 17-year-old brother Carlo were the only two Limpopo participants who are registered by Chessa, at the event. It was a tough five round Swiss-draw tournament and they played 60/60 minute timed games with notation.

“Both brothers had a hard but enjoyable day and performed admirably in a very tough championship, we as well as the school are very proud of them. Well done Charles and Carlo,” said Caroline Smith, coach.
