A pimp at work

POLOKWANE – A SESHEGO man, who says he has been looking for employment for many years without success, reckons he has found a permanent solution to his financial woes through prostitution.

The man, who granted this interview on the basis of anonymity, is not necessarily a prostitute, but a well-known pimp in the township’s zone 6 section.

His happy-hunting ground is a frequented drinking joint in the area, where prostitution is flourishing like nobody’s business.

Although the sex trade has always been a delicate theme in social science, as it is loaded with taboos and strong moral reproaches, the Seshego zone 2-born man says he does not see any wrongdoing in his new-found line of business.

The sex merchant confirms that: “A lot of people participate directly or indirectly in its reality, but they mostly prefer to think reality away, in their self-perception as well as in their views of society”.

Asked if trading young women for sex was exploiting them, he shrugged his shoulders and said: “There is absolutely nothing wrong about this business. It’s a win-win situation… These women need money because they are living in abrupt poverty. It’s just that they don’t know how to entice potential clients. On the other hand, there are men who are sex-starved but they don’t know where to satisfy their sexual desire. So, I am just the middleman between the clients and the service providers. In this triangle, we are all happy at the end of the business deal.”

The renowned pimp charges R50 and takes R20 while the prostitute takes R30 per session.

In the event that the client wants all-night sex, it costs R100 and the woman will rake in R60 while the pimp pockets R40.

The sex dealer is said to be a very credible linkman whom both the clientele and women of the night trust.

He can usually be found relaxing at his favourite watering hole and personally approaches potential clients.

After finding the client, he calls one of the prostitutes and hooks them up at a shack next to the tavern.

A construction worker who stayed in the neighbourhood during the refurbishment of Khensani Drive recently, commended the sex dealer as a smooth operator who understood the sex industry very well.

“I once needed a woman to sleep with after a night of partying at this tavern. A local guy introduced me to this pimp and in a few minutes, he had already hooked me up with one of the ladies. I paid him and the woman told me he had already given her her share” the man, who is only known as Khabo, said.
